Black’s stellar play on Sacred Heart’s back line propelled the junior to her first NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season. The defender from Spring Lake, NJ caused a season-best four turnovers to lead the Pioneers to a key 11-10 overtime victory against Wagner on Saturday. With the triumph, Sacred Heart is one win away from claiming the top seed in the upcoming NEC Championship and at least a share of the regular season crown for the second time in as many years. In addition to her caused turnover production, Black collected a season-best four ground balls. On the season, she is second in the loop in caused turnovers (27), second in caused turnovers per game (1.93) and is tied for seventh in ground balls per game (2.21).
