A stellar .444/.500/1.444 slash line propelled Central Connecticut to a three-game sweep of Wagner and led Machado to her first NEC Player of the Week honor this season. In addition to those impressive averages, the junior second baseman went yard three times and racked up six RBI and four runs in the process. In the Blue Devils’ series opener on Saturday, Machado put her team up by a 6-0 count in an eventual 7-1 triumph after she blasted a three-run shot in the top of the fifth. The Miami native homered again later in the day, as her two-run bomb in the top of the fourth capped off the scoring in an 11-2, five-inning win. Machado went on to add one more long ball to her count in Sunday’s series finale. Launching a solo shot in the top of the fourth, she extended Central Connecticut’s lead to 8-0, which was the eventual final. With the win, the Blue Devils secured their second sweep of an NEC opponent this season. On the season, Machado is the NEC’s leader in slugging percentage (.680). Machado is the third Blue Devil to bestow NEC Player of the Week distinction this season as she joins Paige Stringer (Feb. 27) and Ava Cino (April 2).
