Another weekend series yields another NEC sweep for Saint Francis U and another NEC Player of the Week honor for Ulam. With this week’s award, her second in as many weeks, the Red Flash’s star infielder and clutch hitter pushes her league-leading season total to five. Ulam was stellar at the plate against Sacred Heart, which entered the weekend set in second place behind the undefeated Red Flash. Posting a .600 batting average, she slugged .900 and calculated a .600 on-base percentage while combining for four runs and five RBI to lead Saint Francis U to its fifth three-game sweep in NEC play. In addition, the Pios were unable to put down one of the league’s top hitters as she did not register a strikeout during that stretch. Ulam got the weekend going with a bang on Saturday. Going 2-for-3, she launched a home run — her fourth of league play — to give Saint Francis U a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first. She finished that game with two runs and three RBI to propel the Red Flash to a five-inning 9-0 triumph. In Saturday’s nightcap, the Canonsburg, PA native registered her fifth three-hit game of the season after going 3-for-4 with one run scored. Ulam’s bat sparked the Red Flash’s offense once again on Sunday, as her third-inning base hit drove in the first two runs of the game in an eventual 8-0 run-rule win. Ulam, who has registered at least one hit in seven straight games, enters the week as the NEC’s leader in hits (47), RBI (39) and doubles (15).
