Coughlin anchored a stingy Saint Francis U defense that conceded just 11 goals during a two-game stretch that featured NEC wins over Le Moyne on Wednesday and Central Connecticut on Saturday. The junior netminder was nearly impenetrable, registering 33 saves, a 5.50 GAA and a .750 save percentage to lead the Red Flash to the two wins and move them into a three-way tie for first place with LIU and Sacred Heart. Coughlin got her week going with a bang, turning away a career-high 18 shots in an 8-6 win against the Dolphins. Three days later, the Ontario native held the Blue Devils to just five goals, a career-best effort, after making 15 saves in the 11-goal victory. In each of her past five appearances, all of which have been Red Flash victories, Coughlin has not allowed more than eight scores. She leads the NEC in save percentage (.500) and saves per game (10.73). With a 5-1 record against conference competitors, Saint Francis U, which is off to the program’s best start in NEC play, has already matched last year’s win total. Saint Francis U has dominated the NEC Defensive Player of the Week award as of late, as the honor has been doled out to a Red Flash player in each of the past three weeks. This is Coughlin’s second time earning the honor during that stretch.
