Vesco’s arm was a key factor in another Saint Francis U sweep this past weekend that featured three triumphs against league foe LIU. The veteran hurler and three-time All-NEC First Team honoree tossed 13.0 of the Red Flash’s 20.0 frames to tack on two more wins to her count and push her season total to 10, which is good for second in the conference. With the three-game sweep, Saint Francis U holds down first place in the standings as the lone unbeaten team in the circuit (9-0 NEC). In a pair of starts, Vesco went the distance and calculated a 1.08 ERA after she allowed just two earned runs on six hits and eight walks. Fanning 12 batters during that stretch, she held the Sharks to a stingy .130 batting average. The Uniontown, OH native earned the start in the opening game of the series, where she limited LIU to one earned run and struck out four Sharks in a 4-1 win. In the final game of the series, a 9-1 Red Flash triumph, Vesco allowed just one earned run on a pair of hits in 6.0 innings. On the season, she has held opponents to a league-best .143 batting average and is second in ERA (1.72), strikeouts (103) and wins (10). She has been even more impressive against NEC competitors, limiting them to a .125 batting average while posting a 1.05 ERA. This is Vesco’s second NEC Pitcher of the Week award this season.
