Lacey did a little bit of everything on Saturday, but her tenacity on the defensive side of the field is what propelled Saint Francis U to a 13-8 victory over FDU in the Garden State. With the victory, the Red Flash are off to the program’s best start in NEC play with a 3-1 record, which is good for fourth place in the standings. Lacey anchored a defense that held an opponent to single digits in goals for the second straight week after she caused a career-high four turnovers and added four ground balls. In addition to those stellar numbers, the sophomore middie from Bethel, CT racked up four points after netting her second hat trick of the season. Included in that scoring barrage was the game’s first goal just 65 seconds after the opening draw, which gave Saint Francis U a lead it would not relinquish. Lacey is tied for ninth in the NEC in caused turnovers per game (1.22). This is her first NEC Defensive Player of the Week award, and the third for a Red Flash player this year as Bella Burke and Taylor Coughlin each earned the distinction on March 4 and March 25, respectively.
