Sacred Heart’s defense was lockdown with Heath in the circle last week. The sophomore hurler earned victories in each of her three appearances, including a pair of starts against Fairfield and FDU, to help lead the Pioneers to a 3-1 mark during that stretch. Heath did not allow an earned run in 12.2 innings pitched, and under her watch, she allowed just nine hits and five walks. The Coventry, RI native was solid in her first start of the week against Fairfield on Wednesday. Limiting the Stags to one hit and three walks, she tossed 3.2 scoreless frames to earn the victory. One day later, Heath shut the door on Siena in 2.0 innings of relief as she kept the Saints off the scoreboard to lead Sacred Heart to a 3-2 walk-off victory. In her final start of the week against FDU on Friday, the pitcher went the distance in a 4-0 shutout, registering six strikeouts in the triumph. This is Heath’s first NEC Pitcher of the Week honor this season. She is the second Pioneer to earn the distinction, joining fellow teammate Sam Kowalski.
