Coughlin had another impressive outing between the posts on Saturday to lead Saint Francis U past Wagner in a defensive battle between the two league foes on Staten Island. For the second time in as many games, she anchored a defense that held an opponent to just seven goals as the Red Flash scored a one-goal victory to improve to 2-1 against conference competitors this season. With the win, which ended a seven-game skid in the all-time series with Wagner, Saint Francis U has tied the 2010 and the 2021 teams for the best start in NEC play since its inaugural season in 2002. Coughlin was nearly impenetrable on Saturday, registering seven saves on 22 shots faced for a .500 save percentage. After allowing four goals on her watch in the game’s first 12:46, the junior and Canada native limited Wagner to just three scores the rest of the way to help her team pull off the one-goal triumph. This is Coughlin’s first NEC Defensive Player of the Week award, and the second for a Red Flash player this season.
