Whittaker, the reigning NEC Pitcher of the Year, adds another NEC Pitcher of the Week award to her count to make it two this season. The Blue Devils’ ace was solid in each of her two starts this past weekend and as a result, she led her team to a 2-1 record against FDU in the opening weekend of NEC play. Whittaker was sensational in her first start of the weekend against the Knights. Scattering just three hits while fanning nine batters, she propelled Central Connecticut to a 1-0 triumph for her third shutout of the season in Saturday’s opening game. On Sunday, the Hamilton, NJ native strung together another impressive performance. Giving up a pair of runs on five hits, Whittaker pushed her win total to seven, which are tied for second-most in the circuit, after going the distance in Central Connecticut’s 3-2 victory. In two games, she calculated a 1.00 ERA in 14.0 innings and registered 18 strikeouts. Whittaker previously earned NEC Pitcher of the Week honors on Feb. 27.
