Garroway’s clutch bat led Saint Francis U to what is arguably the program’s biggest win in recent history against Big Ten foe Nebraska on Saturday. With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth frame, the Ellwood City, PA native followed an RBI single by Lexi Hernadez with a bases-clearing two-bagger to put the Red Flash up by a 6-2 count. Saint Francis U went on to allow just one run in the home half of the frame to seal the come-from-behind victory against the Cornhuskers, who entered the season ranked in the nation’s Top 25. With the win, Saint Francis U has now defeated at least one Power Five opponent in five of the last six seasons, excluding the shortened 2020 campaign. Earlier in the weekend, Garroway, a rookie, came into the game in the sixth inning and recorded a pinch-hit RBI single to extend the Red Flash’s lead to six in an eventual 8-0 shutout of Arkansas Pine Bluff. On the week, she batted .500 (4-for-8), slugged .625 and had a .556 on-base percentage after registering one double and five RBI. This is her first-ever NEC Player of the Week award. In addition, she becomes the second rookie this season to garner NEC Player of the Week and NEC Rookie of the Week honors on the same day.
