Another bullet point was added to Marsden’s impressive pitching resumé at Saint Francis U this past weekend. The graduate student earned the start on Saturday in the Red Flash’s game against Nebraska, and she was up for the challenge as her right arm led her team to an extra-inning, 6-3 triumph over the Big Ten opponent. In 8.0 innings, Marsden held the Cornhuskers to just three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks. Tossing four scoreless frames to help Saint Francis U battle back from a 2-0 deficit and ultimately force extra innings, the Erie, PA sealed the win following Saint Francis U’s three-run frame in the top of the eighth by holding Nebraska to just one score in its final at-bats. Marsden also had a stellar performance on Friday against Arkansas Pine Bluff, as she went the distance and fanned a season-best nine batters to earn the one-hit, 8-0 shutout win. In three appearances, she held a 1.02 ERA and a 2-1 record with 19 strikeouts and 20.2 innings pitched. Most impressively, Marsden held opponents to a stingy .176 batting average in that three-game stretch. The league’s leader in wins (7) enters the week ranked second in innings pitched (70.1), third in strikeouts (53) and fourth in ERA (2.49). This is her second NEC Pitcher of the Week honor this year, and the third for a Saint Francis U hurler.
