Garcia was a key factor in Merrimack’s 68-51 victory over visiting LIU on Friday night. The freshman from Puerto Rico went off for 15 points — the most she has scored against a league opponent this season — in her sixth start of the year. Shooting 50.0 percent from the field (4-of-8) and an impressive 87.5 percent from the charity stripe (7-of-8), Garcia came one rebound shy of her first-ever double-double with nine caroms. In addition, the 5-foot-6 guard contributed two assists and a pair of steals. With the victory, the Warriors, who have won two of their past three games, enter the week ranked fourth in the league with a 5-5 record. On the season, Garcia averages 6.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. This is Garcia’s third NEC Rookie of the Week award, which is second in the conference behind Saint Francis U freshman guard Kendall Carruthers, who has taken home the honor four times.
