Watson had two monstrous offensive outings this past week to lead Central Connecticut to an NEC sweep of Saint Francis U and Merrimack on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. In the process, the sophomore guard vaulted herself to the top of the NEC scoring charts and earned NEC Player of the Week distinction for the third time this season. During the two-game stretch, Watson averaged 32.0 points, marking the sixth-best scoring average in NCAA Division I last week. In the Blue Devils’ 64-58 win over the Red Flash, the League City, TX native poured in 27 points while coming one rebound shy of a double-double. She kept her scoring spree going on Saturday in a78-71 win against the Warriors, coming one point off her career high of 38 points for the nation’s fourth-best offensive outing of the week. With her explosive and dominant 37-point outing, Watson has surpassed the 35-point mark in three games this season. Just one other player in the nation has more 35-plus-point games than Watson, as Iowa senior Caitlin Clark has accomplished the feat 10 times. In addition, six of the league’s nine best offensive performances have been produced by Watson, as she also has a 28-point outing and a pair of 27-point efforts to her name this season. A transfer from East Carolina, Watson averages 18.1 points per game this season for the league’s highest scoring average since Merrimack’s Denia Davis-Stewart averaged 18.5 ppg in 2019-20. Against conference opponents, she is putting up a league-leading 18.7 points per night.
