There has been a steady rise in the play of Wagner forward Kiera Edmonds, and as a result, the freshman garners NEC Rookie of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Posting team-best totals in scoring and rebounding, Edmonds led the Seahawks to a 49-45 victory over visiting Central Connecticut on Saturday. The Brooklyn native knocked down 58.3 percent of her shots from the field, going 7-of-12 for a career-high 15 points. In addition, she was a beast on the boards, corralling 11 caroms to chart her first-ever double-double as a collegian. Netting double figures in each of her past two games and three times against conference competition, Edmonds has emerged as one of Wagner’s top players during league play. She is second on the team in scoring with 8.5 points per game, while her 5.8 rebounds per contest are a team-best figure. With her big outing on the boards on Saturday, Edmonds pushed her season average to a team-best 6.2 per game, which ranks sixth amongst league leaders. In addition, her 7.1 points per contest rank fifth on the squad. This is the first weekly honor for a Seahawk this season.
