Thomas turned in two of her finest games this season to help lead Merrimack to a weekend sweep of NEC opponents Wagner and Stonehill. In the process, the Warriors, who have won a season-best three straight games, bumped their record in conference play to 3-3, which is good for fifth in the standings. The North Chelmsford, MA product got her week going with a bang against the Seahawks on Friday. Draining 5-of-10 three-pointers and converting on 53.8 percent of her shots from the field (7-of-13), Thomas racked up 24 points to lead the Warriors to their largest margin of victory this season, a 27-point triumph. Two days later, the 5-foot-9 guard put up 19 points while adding a season-best six rebounds in a 72-60 win over the Skyhawks. On the week, Thomas averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 rebounds on 48.0 percent shooting (12-of-25). Since making her season debut in Merrimack’s conference opener against Sacred Heart earlier this month, the Preseason All-NEC selection is averaging a career-high 15.8 points per game behind four double-figure scoring contests. In addition, she is the only player in the NEC that is shooting the ball at a 40/40/80 split this season, as she is 40.3 percent from the field, 40.8 percent from three and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. This is Thomas’ first NEC Player of the Week honor, and the first for a Merrimack player this season.
