Carruthers added two more star-studded performances to her impressively young resumé to garner NEC Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. The league’s top-scoring first-year player averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 29.0 minutes per game to lead the Red Flash to a 1-1 record in non-conference action. Carruthers got her week going by scoring 12 points at local ACC rival Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Three days later, the 5-foot-7 guard went on to deliver a sensational performance against Morgan State to lead Saint Francis U to its first win of the season on Saturday. Tallying her second 20-plus-point performance of the season — and her second in the past three games — Carruthers led all scorers with 20 points in the 69-59 victory. In the win, she shot 46.2 percent from the field (6-of-13) and 7-for-8 effort from the free-throw line while adding four assists, four boards, two steals and just one miscue to that impressive stat line. Carruthers has been on an absolute tear as of late. After combining for 20 points in her first three games as a collegiate, she has ripped off double figures in each of her past five appearances. During that stretch, the Buckeye State native has reached the 20-point-plateau twice and is averaging a team-leading 17.6 points per game. Carruthers is ranked fifth among league leaders in scoring (13.5 ppg), while her 1.8 triples per game are good for fourth in the NEC
