Needing just three games into her collegiate career to hit her stride, Carruthers has quickly emerged as one of the top rookies in the NEC. Since starting the season off with six, nine and five-point efforts, the first-year guard has gone off for double figures in each of her past three outings, including a recent 21-point outing on Sunday against Lafayette. During her recent three-game hot streak, Carruthers, a native of Ohio, has averaged 15.3 points on 47.1 percent shooting (16-of-34) with nine three-pointers. Against the Leopards, which saw Saint Francis U come up short after erasing a double-digit halftime deficit, she shot the rock at a 46.2 percent clip, with all but one of her six made field goals coming from three-point land. Carruthers added two rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal to that stat line. She is Saint Francis U’s leading scorer with 12.7 ppg, which leads all NEC rookies and is fifth overall in the circuit. In addition, Carruthers is first in the conference in field goal percentage (.453), second in free throw percentage (.850) and fourth in three-point field goals per game (1.8). This is her first NEC Rookie of the Week award of the season.
