Burns put up monstrous numbers — including a record-shattering performance — in what proved to be a pivotal weekend for the Red Flash. Propelling Saint Francis U to a 2-0 record to secure the program’s third-straight berth to the NEC Championship, the Clarion, PA native was virtually unstoppable over the weekend, averaging 6.69 points and 6.50 kills per set behind an impressive .408 hitting percentage. In addition, Burns contributed 3.38 digs per set to a stellar Saint Francis U defensive effort. With her team going up against first-place FDU and a playoff bid on the line on Friday, the sophomore outside hitter took care of business. Committing just five errors while posting a .547 hitting percentage, Burns helped Saint Francis U knock off the Knights in four sets with a 34-kill effort, a mark that smashed the program’s record since rally scoring began in 2001. That figure, which is an NEC-best mark this season, is tied for the third-best performance by a Division I in a four-set match in 2023. Burns was just as impressive the next day against LIU. She compiled her ninth double-double of the season on 18 digs and a team-leading 18 kills to secure the third seed and extend the Red Flash’s win streak to a season-best six wins with a 3-1 final. A two-time NEC Player of the Week honoree, Burns leads the NEC in kills per set (3.63) and is tied for first with fellow teammate Skye Eicher in points per set (4.00). She has been even more impressive in conference play, as she leads the way with 3.70 kills and 4.04 points per set.
