Week 11 Stats: 6 tackles (2 solo), 2 fumble recoveries
Waters anchored a defensive effort that largely produced an early 17-0 lead just seven minutes into the game in Stonehill’s rollercoaster 33-28 win at first-place Duquesne on Saturday. Registering six tackles, including two solo stops, the senior linebacker fueled the Skyhawks’ fast start with a pair of fumble recoveries that led to first-quarter scores. Waters’ first recovery came on a fumble by quarterback Darius Perrantes on Duquesne’s first play of the game. Three plays later, Jake Newsham hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it a 10-0 Stonehill lead. On the ensuing kickoff, the Maryland product struck again, this time scooping up a fumble caused by defensive lineman Matt Beekey at the Duquesne 17 and running it in untouched for his first career touchdown and a 17-0 first-quarter lead. In the win, Waters and the Stonehill defense held the Dukes to just 97 rushing yards. He is the third Skyhawk to garner NEC Defensive Player of the Week distinction this season, joining Micah Brown (September 11) and Sam Murphy (October 9).
