In a dual meet win over Southern Connecticut State (184-104), Ovaskainen took gold in every event he swam in. In the 200-yard medley relay he swam a 22.53 leg for a winning time of 1:34.11. The rookie from Lahti, Finland touched in at 46.91 in the 100-yard freestyle which is the top NEC time and swam a 50.14 in the 100-yard butterfly ranking third in the league for a pair of gold medals. Ovaskainen swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:25.77 contributing to the win with a 20.97 leg.
