Week 10 Stats: 11-17, 172 passing yards, 2 TD passes, 1 INT, 7 rushes, 70 rushing yards
In addition to putting together an impressive stat line, Howell’s arm in crunch time led LIU to a thrilling 29-28 win over reigning NEC champion Saint Francis U in Loretto, PA on Saturday. In the final moments of the fourth quarter, the rookie slung a 72-yard pass to freshman Aviyon Smith-Mack to spark a crucial drive that was capped by a game-winning touchdown by redshirt senior Owen Glascoe with just 93 seconds remaining. With their second straight victory — and their third NEC win in the past four games — the Sharks improved to 3-2 in conference play. In addition to throwing that key down-field bomb, Howell, a Queens, NY native, completed 11-of-17 passes and finished with 172 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Howell is the first LIU player to garner NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season.
