Week 8 Stats: 2 FR, 1 punt return TD
Lowery’s heads-up play on special teams gave undefeated Duquesne its largest lead of the afternoon — a 31-7 advantage in the second quarter — against defending NEC champion Saint Francis U in a wild game that saw the Dukes escape with their third-straight victory by way of a 38-35 final in Pittsburgh. The Sunshine State product scooped up a wild snap on a botched punt attempt by the Red Flash and waltzed in for a 15-yard touchdown return to cap a Duquesne scoring spree that landed the Dukes in the end zone three times in the final 2:29 of the first half. Lowery, a defensive back, also recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half. His scoop and score marked Duquesne’s second defensive touchdown of the 2023 campaign. Lowery is the second Duke to take home NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season. He joins Brian Bruzdewicz, who received the distinction on Oct. 2.
