With another undefeated weekend of NEC play under Sacred Heart's belt comes yet another weekly award for Pioneers’ freshman Gaby Zovko. The setter was once again pegged the league’s top rookie for the seventh time in eight weeks on Tuesday after she put up impressive all-around numbers for Sacred Heart, which tacked on two more wins in league play to improve to 7-0 and remain in control of first place in the NEC standings. Zovko averaged 5.75 assists, 2.75 points, 1.75 digs, 1.63 kills, 1.00 blocks and 0.63 aces for the Pios, who followed a five-set win over Saint Francis U on Friday with a straight-set triumph over Le Moyne on Saturday. The Bedford, MA native was sensational in Friday’s thriller against the Red Flash, reaching triple-double territory with 26 dimes, nine digs and eight kills. Adding four blocks in that win, Zovko tacked on four more rejections against Le Moyne on Saturday to go along with 20 assists, five digs, five kills and a career-best five service aces. She continues to be one of the league’s most dangerous servers, as she leads the circuit and is ranked second and sixth in the nation, respectively, in aces per set (0.66) and total service aces (41).
