Montanez put together one of her finest performances this season on Saturday to help lead Sacred Heart to a 5-0 start to conference play by way of a commanding, 3-0 victory over visiting Central Connecticut. The junior middle blocker got things done offensively and defensively for the Pios, registering season-best marks in both kills (8) and blocks (8). Posting a sizzling .438 hitting percentage after committing just one miscue in 16 total attacks, Montanez also raised the conference’s standard for most rejections in a three-set match with her eight-block effort. Amongst league leaders, she ranks third in hitting percentage (.278) and second in blocks (0.98 per set). Montanez’s award, which is the first of her career, marks the third time this season that Sacred Heart has claimed two-of-three weekly awards.
