Zovko becomes the first freshman this season to earn multiple NEC honors in the same week after she claimed both the NEC Rookie of the Week and the NEC Defensive Player of the Week awards. The now five-time weekly award winner helped lead Sacred Heart to a 2-0 start for the second time in as many seasons after she put up impressive numbers against FDU on Friday and LIU on Saturday. Averaging a league-best 9.11 assists to guide an offense that combined for 110 kills over a two-match stretch — including a season-high 63 in Saturday’s thrilling five-set victory against the Sharks — Zovko was solid defensively as well, registering 2.56 digs and 1.33 blocks per set for the Pioneers. The Bedford, MA native compiled eight blocks, the most by a Sacred Heart player in a match this season and added nine digs to pace the defense in Friday’s 3-1 win over Sacred Heart. The following day, Zovko posted a 14-dig effort to complete her seventh double-double of the season against the Sharks. This is the setter’s first NEC Defensive Player of the Week award.
