Colon garners NEC Player of the Week honors for the first time this season after she led all NEC players in digs (83) and digs per set (6.38). She twice set the NEC’s single-match standard in digs during that stretch and in the process, she also broke LIU’s single-match program record in the category. Colon started her week with a then season- and NEC-best 33-dig effort against Delaware State, a five-set defeat on Tuesday. Recording nine digs on Thursday against Kansas State, she improved upon her previous NEC-leading single-match mark — and shattered the Sharks’ program record — on Friday with a 41-dig performance in LIU’s five-set loss to Rice. Colon, who was named to the K-State Invitational All-Tournament Team, enters the week ranked fifth in the nation in total digs (254), while her 5.91 digs per set are good for second in NCAA Division I. Also earning NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors, she has collected weekly distinction from the conference three times this season.
