Colon becomes the first player this season to sweep the NEC weekly awards, as she was also tabbed the NEC Player of the Week. The libero from Carolina, Puerto Rico put up sizzling defensive numbers in three matches last week that vaulted her from 21st to fifth in the nation in total digs (254). Colon, a junior, set the NEC’s single-match high in digs against Delaware State after registering 33 in a five-set defeat to the Hornets. Later in the week, she bested that conference-best mark and broke LIU’s program record by delivering 41 digs in a thrilling, five-set loss to Rice, a team that was nationally ranked earlier in the season. In two matches at the K-State Invitational, Colon averaged 6.25 digs per set to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. With 5.91 digs per set this season, she currently ranks second in NCAA Division I in the category. This is her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
