Castro slugged LIU to a 4-0 record last week that included a three-game sweep of NEC opponent Stonehill over the weekend. With the victories, the Sharks vaulted to the top of the league standings with an 11-4 record. Going 5-for-11 for a .455 batting average, the rookie posted a .538 on-base percentage and a league-leading 1.273 slugging percentage. During the four-game stretch, which also included a non-conference win over Quinnipiac, Castro racked up seven runs and eight RBI. The Bakersfield, CA was sensational in the three-game set with Stonehill, going yard in each of her team's three victories. Extending LIU’s lead to 7-2 with a solo shot in the fifth inning in Friday’s series opener, she drove in three more runs and pushed the Sharks’ lead to 6-1 with another fifth-inning bomb in Saturday’s opening contest. Castro wrapped up her hot weekend with another three-run homer in Saturday’s nightcap to lead the Sharks to a 6-1 victory in the series finale. With seven home runs this season, the shortstop is second in the NEC, while her 22 RBI are good for second in the circuit. This is Castro’s third NEC Rookie of the Week award.
