Whittaker was stellar last week for CCSU, which went 5-0 with a pair of non-conference victories over Hartford and a three-game sweep of Wagner over the weekend. Pitching all but 6.1 innings for the Blue Devils, the veteran racked up wins in each of her four starts and tacked on a save after working two-thirds of an inning in the nightcap of Thursday’s doubleheader against Hartford. Tossing 35.2 innings with four complete games — including a 13-inning battle with Wagner — Whittaker held opponents to a .142 batting average and posted a 0.59 ERA after allowing just three earned runs. Racking up 24 strikeouts, including 10 in the opening game against Hartford, two of her victories were shutouts. This is her first NEC Pitcher of the Week honor.
