Samuel had a breakout weekend for Merrimack. Entering a three-game series with Sacred Heart with two hits in 21 at-bats, the rookie combined to go 5-for-9 for a .556 batting average and a .545 on-base percentage to lead the Warriors to a 2-1 record in their NEC debut. Most impressively, Samuel, who homered and doubled in that stretch, slugged 1.000 with six RBI and three runs. In the series opener on Saturday, the Wyckoff, NJ native launched a three-run home run to push Merrimack’s lead to 8-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Samuel also had a timely hit in the nightcap, as her double in the seventh frame extended the Warriors’ lead to three. She capped off her weekend with a two-RBI outing in an 8-5 defeat on Sunday. This is Samuel’s first Co-Rookie of the Week honor.
