Sawyers had a big week for Saint Francis U. The rookie utility player’s bat helped lead the Red Flash to a 3-1 record with a doubleheader split with Towson on Wednesday and a two-game sweep of Stonehill on Monday. Sawyers slugged .875 during that stretch after sending four of her eight hits for extra bases on three doubles and one home run. In addition to finishing the stretch with a .500 batting average, she also posted a .500 on-base percentage. In the win against Towson, Sawyer sparked a three-run fifth inning with an RBI double to give the Red Flash a lead in the eventual 3-0 win. The Licking Valley native also had a big game in Monday’s nightcap against Stonehill, an 11-1 victory. Opening up the scoring with a solo shot, Sawyers’ RBI single in the third frame made it a 7-0 advantage for the Skyhawks. This is her first NEC Co-Rookie of the Week honor this season.
