One week after becoming Sacred Heart’s all-time leading goal scorer, Werlau continued to pour in the offense for the Pioneers. Winning six draw controls, the graduate student racked up 11 goals and tacked on two assists for 13 points to lead Sacred Heart to a 1-1 record in non-conference play. Werlau put together one of her finest offensive outings of the year on Wednesday in a 14-8 win against New Hampshire. Scoring a season-best seven times, the graduate student dished out an assist to come one point shy of her career high. Delivering two goals in the first half to put the Pioneers in front, 7-1, at halftime, Werlau struck twice in the third to help build on a 7-5 advantage and seal the victory. Later in the week, the Brewster, NY native netted her fourth hat trick of the season after scoring four goals and adding in an assist in a 14-10 defeat to Brown. Putting up multiple goals in each of her seven games this season, Werlau league-leading 25 scores are 13 more than her next closest competitor. In addition, her 3.57 goals per game and 4.00 points per game are also tops in the NEC. This is Werlau’s first NEC Player of the Week honor of the season.
