Castro earns a share of the NEC Rookie of the Week award for the second straight week. The first-year shortstop went 5-for-16 at the plate in five games last week at the Bash in the Boro. Sending three of her hits for extra bases on a pair of doubles and a home run, Castro scored four runs and drove in three more over that three-day stretch. She played a big part in the Sharks’ lone win of the weekend, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI in a 4-3 decision against Radford on Saturday. Opening the game with a solo shot in the first inning, Castro scored the game-tying run in the top of the third and drove in the go-ahead run on a double in the fifth frame. Sporting a team-best .333 batting average, the Bakersfield, CA native also leads LIU in hits (10), doubles (4), home runs (2), runs (5) and RBI (7).
