Castro went 5-for-14 at the plate (.357) and posted a .714 slugging percentage to lead LIU at the FGCU Kickoff Classic. Reaching base safely in all five games, the rookie shortstop was impressive in her collegiate debut, combining for four RBI while sending three of her five hits for extra bases with a pair of doubles and one home run. In the first of two meetings against host Florida Gulf Coast, Castro delivered a two-run double in the first frame to put the Sharks in front by a 2-0 count in an eventual 5-3 defeat on Saturday. On Sunday, she provided LIU with another early advantage with her first career home run, a solo shot in the second inning. The Eagles would spoil that early lead though, scoring a 4-3 walk-off victory.
