Oyama made an instant impact for the Sharks after transferring from North Texas. The former All-CUSA Rookie selection finished her first month with a 3-2 singles record and won all six of her doubles matches teaming with veteran Victoria Erechtchenko. The duo qualified for ITA Super Regionals by defeating Shivani Ingle and Joleta Budiman from NJIT, 8-4, in a quarterfinal match at the ITA Regionals on October 2. Oyama also advanced to the round of 16 in singles at ITAs, knocking off opponents from Hofstra and NJIT. Earlier in the month, the native of Osaka, Japan rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over FDU's Alena Kubanova, an All-NEC second team selection a year ago.
