Puente opened the scoring for LIU during two shutout victories last week. The sophomore defender’s two goals allowed the Sharks to extend their unbeaten streak to five consecutive matches. Facing MAAC member Manhattan for a final tune-up prior to the start of conference competition, Puente broke through in the 14th minute when he took a header from Fridtjof Andberg and buried it into the lower left corner of the goal. The Mexican-born footballer totaled two shots while logging 71:00 in the 4-0 road win. Puente provided the lone goal in Sunday’s NEC opener at Central Connecticut. Assisted by Assane Ben Fall, he broke a scoreless deadlock in the 80th minute.
