STATS (Week 2): 1 start, 1 double-double, 29 points, 16 rebounds, 3 blocks, .522 FG pct.
Statistically speaking, Bjelko’s third double-double in the season’s first four games was her most-impressive performance yet. The senior center poured in a career-high 29 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, spearheading a 62-46 road win over MAAC member Iona. Bjelko shot 52.2 percent from the floor en-route to becoming the first NEC player to eclipse the 25-point mark in a game this season. She also blocked three shots on the defensive end. The 6-foot-3 post player was responsible for six of Bryant’s first eight points of the game. Her eight second-quarter points propelled the Bulldogs to a 24-12 edge over the second 10:00 segment. Bjelko, who paces the NEC circuit in scoring and rebounding, is one of 17 Division I players averaging at least 12.5 rebounds per game through the season’s first two weeks.
