Gillette spun a gem against Summit League preseason favorite Oral Roberts. The sophomore right-hander fired 6.0 scoreless innings in a 4-0 shutout victory, which completed Merrimack’s Saturday doubleheader sweep. Pitching to an 0.83 WHIP, Gillette did not permit an extra-base hit. The 6-foot-1 sophomore limited Oral Roberts to three singles and two walks while striking out two batters. After extinguishing a bases-loaded threat in the first inning, he did not permit a base-runner past second the rest of the way. Gillette set down eight straight batters following a one-out, second-inning walk. The righty, who retired the side in order during the third and fourth frames, held the ORU lineup to a .136 batting average. Gillette finished strong, retiring the last three ORU hitters to face him. After a walk and a single by the first two batters in the sixth inning, the second-year Warrior induced two fly outs and a ground out to keep his team’s 2-0 lead intact.
