Matlach rattled the cage in both of Fairfield’s overtime victories last week. The German-born Stag provided the overtime game-winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over NEC rival Rider before opening the scoring in an eventual 2-1 win over Big East member Villanova. Dealing Rider its first league loss, Matlach buried the deciding goal inside the near post 6:06 into the first extra period. The 5-foot-6 midfielder scored her fifth goal of the season late in the first quarter at Villanova, steering home a pass from Julianna Kratz. Matlach was responsible for 5 of the team’s 15 shots during the road win.
