Receiving the bulk of the work load in the absence of All-American running back AJ Hines, Allen stepped up and carried Duquesne to victory in its annual meeting with PFL member Dayton. The graduate transfer gained 201 yards from scrimmage and scored two go-ahead touchdowns in a 35-31 road win. Spoiling the home opener for 2-0 Dayton, Allen rushed 30 times for 168 yards and logged 33 yards on two receptions. The former Penn State undergraduate went for 43 yards during the game’s opening possession, which ended on a touchdown pass from Daniel Parr to Kellon Taylor. Allen’s first touchdown, an one-yard play, capped a 65-yard drive and broke a 7-7 tie with 1:08 remaining in the opening quarter. He accounted for a 17-yard burst into the red zone on the Dukes’ first drive of the second half. Allen was a workhorse on the fourth-quarter drive that gave Duquesne the lead for good. The veteran ball carrier rushed seven times for 38 yards, ending with a one-yard touchdown plunge that put the Dukes in front, 35-31, with 7:13 to play.
