Katende broke the 14.00m barrier for the first time this season, posting the NEC’s top mark in the process. The French-born Colonial put the shot 14.19m while going up against a 56-entrant field at the Youngstown State Invitational. Katende’s best throw, which allowed the sophomore shot putter to claim second place at the meet, moved the underclasswoman past LIU Brooklyn’s Taylor Parker (14.02m) for first place on the Northeast Conference performance list. By virtue of her latest effort, the second-year Colonial climbed up to the No. 17 spot on the list of automatic qualifiers for the ECAC Championships.
