WEEK 1 STATS: 22.5 ppg, 16.5 rpg, 1.5 spg, .485 FG pct.
Bryant opened the season by recording back-to-back victories and the team’s preseason all-NEC small forward was a key contributor to the fast start. Holloway finished the first week of her junior campaign as the NEC’s leading scorer and rebounder. Posting double-doubles in both wins last week, the 5-foot-10 small forward averaged 22.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per outing. Holloway, who paced the circuit in rebounding and double-doubles one year ago, shot 48.5 percent from the field as the Bulldogs defeated UMass Lowell and Brown. In the season opener, Holloway accounted for 18 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and some late-game heroics. First, she hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 57-57 with only 10 second remaining. Then, on UMass Lowell’s ensuing possession, Holloway stole the ball and raced down the floor with a chance to win the game. She drew a foul on the potential go-ahead shot attempt and proceeded to hit the tie-breaking free throw with only 0.2 second remaining. Two days later, Holloway posted the NEC’s first 20-20 game of the season in a runaway home win over Ivy League member Brown. The West Virginia product scored 27 points and pulled down 20 caroms in the 75-57 triumph.
