WEEK 9 STATS: 318 rush yards, 23 rushes, 3 TD rushes, 13.8 ypc
Meachum became only the fourth man ever to reach the 300-yard rushing mark during a NEC game. Spearheading Sacred Heart’s record day on the ground, the senior carried 23 times for 318 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-26 triumph over Bryant. Each of Meachum’s three touchdown runs were at least 40 yards in length and his third scoring scamper matched the longest play from scrimmage in league history. With Sacred Heart backed up in the shadow of its own goal posts on its first possession of the fourth quarter, Meachum took a first down hand-off and busted through the defense for a 99-yard touchdown run. The play, which allowed SHU to increase its lead to 47-20 with 13:26 remaining, marked the NEC’s longest gain from scrimmage since Monmouth’s Dave Sinisi broke off a 99-yard touchdown rush on October 6, 2007. With the Pioneers in control, Meachum rested on the sideline for the remainder of the contest. Meachum’s first touchdown, a 40-yard run on first down, tied the score at 7-7 only 5:13 into the game. In the second quarter, he went 71 yards for a score to increase the SHU lead to 27-14 with 6:00 to go before halftime.
