Setting the tone for Mount St. Mary’s series sweep, McGough twirled an absolute gem during Friday’s opener. The sophomore southpaw fired a 9-inning complete-game one-hitter, earning a 7-0 victory over Sacred Heart. Pitching to an 0.44 WHIP, McGough limited SHU to three bases on balls and one fourth-inning single. He retired the first 10 batters of the game, setting down five of the first six men via strikeout. McGough, who struck out the side in his first inning of work, finished the day with seven punchouts. Dan Schock’s one-out single to left field broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth frame. McGough worked around leadoff walks in the eighth and ninth innings, finishing a full 9.0 frames for the first time since March 30 when he went the distance in a 6-1 win over Bryant.
