Clyne baffled the Blue Devils’ lineup for 8.1 innings in Friday’s opener, but did not factor into the decision as the game remained scoreless until the 11th frame. The second-year Blackbird allowed only three singles and one walk while recording 12 strikeouts. Clyne fanned six of the first seven batters he faced in the game with a second-inning infield single being the lone exception. He retired the side in order during four of the first five frames. Clyne, who did not permit multiple baserunners in any inning, pitched to an 0.48 WHIP. After 8.0 shutout innings, he faced one batter in the ninth inning and induced a flyout before handing the ball to Mike Kreiger, who went on to earn the win.
