WEEK 5 STATS: 1 start, W, 5.0 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K, 2 BB
Thompson earned the start for Friday’s road game against Big East member Villanova and the rookie right-hander responded by spinning 5.0 shutout frames to earn his first career victory. Recording his longest outing of the season, the first-year Pioneer limited the Wildcats to one hit and two walks in 5.0 innings. Thompson issued two-out walks in the first and second frames, but promptly induced a flyout from the next batter on both occasions. Villanova’s only hit off the 6-foot-3 freshman was a two-out double in the third inning. After losing the no-hitter, Thompson retired seven batters in a row and handed a 2-0 lead over to the SHU bullpen.
