Theetge twirled a gem during Bryant’s season opener at Pac 12 member Arizona, a team knocking on the door on the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25. Keeping the Wildcats off balance, Bryant’s veteran southpaw spun 7.0 innings of two-hit ball. He allowed walk and the lone run he surrendered was unearned. After permitting a single up the middle to Arizona’s first batter of the game, the tall lefty proceeded to retire 11 Wildcats in a row. Theetge’s streak ended in the fifth inning when he plunked the leadoff batter. The ensuing hitter reached on an error to put runners on first and second. The 6-foot-3 southpaw used a double play and a pickoff to eventually wiggle out of the jam, but not before Arizona took a 1-0 lead. After surrendering the unearned run in the fifth, Theetge bounced back by posting two more scoreless frames. He retired the last six batters to face him and ended his day with a 1-2-3 seventh.
