Turner reached base safely in all three games of LIU Brooklyn’s season-opening series against Chicago State. While accounting for a .538 on-base percentage, Turner connected on three extra-base hits including the first two dingers of his senior campaign. The veteran corner infielder, who was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 40th Round of the MLB Draft last spring, did most of his damage at the plate during the middle game of the series. Powering the Blackbirds to an 8-3 victory, he went 4-for-5 in the batter’s box with three RBI and two runs scored. Turner blasted a two-run home run to left field in the third inning and added a one-out solo shot in the fifth as the Blackbirds jumped out to a 7-0 lead in Game 2. After Chicago State cut into the deficit with a three-run eighth inning, Turner laced a RBI single in the bottom half of the frame to cap the game’s scoring. In Friday’s series opener, LIU’s starting first baseman reached base twice thanks to a walk and hit-by-pitch. He also drew a base on balls with two outs in the third inning of the series finale.
