Another week, another new height and a third consecutive NEC Field Athlete of the Week award for Del Cerro. The Spanish-born pole vaulter cleared the 5.00m mark to earn a bronze medal at the Penn 8-Team Select Meet. The performance comes one week after Del Cerro set Wagner’s program record by vaulting 4.90m at Towson. The sophomore, who now stands 20 centimeters over the IC4A Championship qualifying standard, retained the NEC lead by virtue of his latest effort. Had Del Cerro not set a seasonal best at Penn, he would have relinquished first place on the league leader board to Central Connecticut’s Sam Borecki who cleared 4.95m at the Joe Donahue Games last week. Del Cerro is tied for eighth on the IC4A regional performance list.
