Kroll exploded out of a mini slump last week, scoring 42 points in 48 minutes of action as the Red Flash swept the NEC’s Brooklyn-based contingent. The redshirt freshman guard shot 56.7 percent from the field, including a 6-for-14 clip from downtown. Kroll, who has recorded at least two rebounds and one assist in every game this season, helped SFU to two more conference victories by averaging 3.5 caroms, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per outing. Starting Saturday’s NEC home opener against St. Francis Brooklyn, Kroll reached double figures in the scoring column for the first time since SFU’s overtime win at Portland on December 20. She logged 12 points and five rebounds in the 90-75 win over the Terriers. The 5-foot-10 rookie scored nine first-half points, on 4-for-7 shooting, as the Red Flash built a 46-35 lead before the break. Leading SFU into triple digits against LIU Brooklyn two days later, Kroll became the first NEC freshman this season to score 30 points in game. The Ohio product, who also logged four assists, made 5 of 10 three-point attempts in the 101-71 triumph. Kroll, who opened December by exceeding the 20-point mark in back-to-back games, totaled only 11 points over her final three appearances of the 2017 calendar year. Last week’s two-game surge bumped the rookie up to seventh place overall on the NEC’s scoring leader board (13.1 ppg).
